60 seconds with Nikhil Malhotra

The 'Banter-saurus Rex' on his best and most embarrassing cricketing moments

'Playing wise, I bowl fast-medium with a bit of 'dodgy' spin thrown in every now and then'
- Nikhil Malhotra

Nikhil has played through all the junior age groups and has been playing for the 3rd and 4th XIs over the last 2 years.

He is pictured with other members of Richie Stace's colts team who will be the backbone of our Development XI. Pictured from left to right: James Duffy, Yash Vora, Nikhil, Vinay Malhotra (4th XI skipper), Max Newark-Symonds and Aaron Stace.

Name: Nikhil Malhotra

Nickname: Vin Junior (how about Archbishop of Banterbury?)

Describe yourself as a player: Playing wise, I bowl fast-medium with a bit of “dodgy” spin thrown in every now and then, when the situation demands. I also like to hit the ball as hard as I can and don't have too many defensive shots in my locker.

I am also a quality sledger - but not just to the oppo. I love dishing it out to team mates and definitely aim to be the loudest man on the field with my cheeky banter.

Best cricket advice Ritchie Stace (Development XI Manager) has ever given you?:
At one match he was watching from the sidelines and said “Nikhil what on earth are you doing?!!! Maybe try and run in a straight line when you go to bowl?!!” I got hit for six next ball but still the best advice he ever gave!

Best cricket memory?
When my own Dad (Vinay, 4th XI skipper) dropped 2 catches in one match off my bowling...I get free pizza when I want it now.

Also, we had an internal club match against the U15s when I was in U14s. We needed 26 off just 2 overs and I smashed 21 off the penultimate over with some sixes into the tennis courts. The U15s were so stressed and victory was sweet!

Most embarrassing cricketing moment? In one match, I got hit for 6 by my Dad while I was bowling. Then later one he got me out...I never hear the end of that...

Favourite player/ cricket hero? Joe Root. Absolute legend.

Favourite format to watch?Test matches... you have got to love the mini-battles and challenges the players face. In my team I often see a bit of 'Test-match-style-batting' in many of our players as well... *cough* Aaron Stace (pictured on far right of photo).

What is the best thing about Addiscombe?

Definitely the people . The banter is amazing and makes the club so much better and creates a positive and fun environment for us to play cricket in. I get a bit of stick every now and then but if you ask me the lads love it!
