60 second interview: Adnan Saleem, former 1st XI player

Jon Kuhrt11 Apr 2020 - 04:44

We catch up with ACC's legendary left-armer, now living in Dubai, about his fond memories of Sandilands

'ACC is my home. Its where I have my fondest cricketing memories and my best friends'
- Adnan Saleem

Name: Adnan Saleem

Nickname: Addy

How would you describe yourself as a player? Bowling: Left arm (very fast). Batting: A slogger

Best cricket memory? When Addiscombe played in the Premier League of the Surrey Championship, we had a match against Wimbledon CC I remember well. I scored a century and then dismissed their top 5 batsmen with the new ball.

Most embarrassing cricketing moment? There are many. But probably the most embarrassing was dropping a fairly regulation catch off Mark Ramprakash at mid off whilst performing 12th man duties for Surrey at Lords. Thankfully he got out shortly after...

Favourite player/cricket hero? Wasim Akram, Brian Lara...and all of the ACC 1st XI in the 1990s!

Favourite format to watch? Any cricket where conditions are heavily in favour of the seam bowlers

Best thing about Addiscombe CC? It’s my home. I have been associated with the club for 28 years and its the place where I have my fondest cricket memories and best friends. If I didn't live abroad, I would still be very much involved with the club.

Adnan took over 600 wickets and scored over 5000 runs for ACC's 1st XI after his debut in 1993. He also represented England Schools, British Universities, the Club Cricket Conference and the MCC. In the 1990s he played for Surrey CCC 2nd XI before playing for Buckinghamshire in the Minor Counties Championship.
